Program Description

The Pharmacy Technician training prepares you to work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist in a retail or hospital pharmacy. This is a 300 hour training that takes place at our Logan classroom and includes a 40 hour clinical experience in a local pharmacy. |
Curriculum

Areas of study include:
- General roles and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician
- Drug packaging and dispensing
- Inventory maintenance and control
- Pharmacy laws, regulations & ethics
- Customer assistance and communication skills
- Pharmaceutical calculations
- Basic pharmacology of common medications; brand and generic names; common uses; drug classifications
- Medical and pharmaceutical terminology and abbreviations
- Health insurance billing
- Basic compounding techniques of sterile and non-sterile products
In addition to your classroom experience, you will also take part in a pharmacy clinical experience. |
Professional Certifications and Industry Credentials

In Ohio, all pharmacy technicians must be certified or state-tested to perform most pharmacy-related duties. Successful completion of this program includes taking the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
To be eligible to sit for this exam and receive certification, students must be:
- at least 18 years old,
- have a high school diploma or GED, and
- have no felony conviction or record of a pharmacy or drug-related conviction.
