Program Description

In this full-time, 1,350 hour program, you will learn all of the skills you need to be an invaluable member of a medical office. Learn the ins and outs of medical coding, medical billing, data entry, accounts receivable, insurance reimbursement, and claims follow-up. In addition to classroom training, gain hands-on experience in your 140 hour internship in a local physician's office. |

Professional Certifications and Industry Credentials
|

Students will sit for the national certifications to become both a Certified Healthcare Billing Specialist (CHBS) and a Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS).
You will also earn:
- Certification in CPR Pro, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Emergency Oxygen Administration through the American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI);
- Certification as an Electronic Health Record Specialist through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA);
- An ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC); and
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification in Word and Excel Core

Career Opportunities
|
|
Trained medical billers and coders play a key role in medical offices, clinics and hospital settings. Their duties often include collecting payments from patients, maintaining billing records, and assigning codes to diseases and treatments for billing purposes. A medical biller and coder may send bills to patients, and submits claims for reimbursement to insurance companies, Medicare and other government entities.
