Mary Abel, Diversified Industrial Training Manager

Mary Abel coordinates and supervises career enhancement program training in technical areas that are requested by local industry as well as working with incumbent and dislocated workers who need or want to develop specific skills. These areas include welding, electrical trades, CAD and construction technology. She also manages classes and programs in partnership with Hocking College which include electrical and carpentry areas that are part of an Associate Degree in Construction Management.

She is a graduate of Ohio University with degrees in education and journalism and she also has completed her certification as a trainer in the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum.

Lin Klein, Human Resource Development Training Manager

Human Resource Development has been a common thread through most of Lin Klein's work experience. She has had direct management responsibilities where she hired, trained, and developed her staff. Lin has also had extensive experience as a trainer for both managers and employees on a variety of topics. She has worked at Hewlett-Packard Company, Colorado State University, State Farm Insurance Company Headquarters, and various other service organizations.  Her 20 plus years of business experience have prepared Lin to share her expertise with local businesses as they continue to develop their staff members.

Lin graduated from Ohio University with a Baccalaureate Degree specializing in Education, Communications, and Human Resource Management. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was recognized as Outstanding Graduate in University College that year.  Lin also holds an Associate Degree from Harper College in Illinois. In addition, Lin is a certified ACT Work-Keys job profiler and trained to administer a variety of pre-employment assessments to help managers select the best employees.

 

 

Lyn Lee, Medical Assisting Instructor

·        Alexander High School Graduate and also completed a two year office services program at Tri-County JVS.

·        Worked at Dr’s Hospital Nelsonville in the Admission’s Office and in the patient accounting office for six years.

·        Worked at Dr. Mark Knable’s Office as his biller

·        Graduated from Tri-County Adult Career Center in Medical Assisting Technology in 2004. 

·        Hired at her clinical site, University Medical Associates, Family Medicine and Express Care during clinicals as the patient accounts representative.

·        Worked as the floor medical assistant for both Family Medicine and Express Care at Parks Hall starting in May of 2004. 

·        Proctor for American Medical Technology and administered the test for Phlebotomy and Medical Assisting until joining the Adult Career Center.

·        Member of the Advisory Committee for Medical Assisting. 

·        Member of Registered Medical Assistant and is a member of American Medical Technologists, the Association for Career and Technical Education and Cambridge’s Who’s Who.

Although she is working at the school now, she is still employed by University Medical Associated, Family Medicine on Fridays doing hospital billing and nursing home charges for five physicians. 

 

   George McCarthy, Paralegal Instructor

 

¨      Practicing attorney with Mollica, Gall, Sloan and Sillery, Co., L.P.A., the largest private law firm in Athens County , Ohio

¨      He prosecuted cases for approximately fifteen years previous holding positions as city prosecutor and assistant county prosecutor where he prosecuted violent crimes such as murder, rapes, robberies, driving under the influence, domestic violence and assaults. 

¨      Trained with various state and local agencies including the  F.B.I. and U.S. Department of Justice.

¨      Co-founded the Prosecuting Attorneys Section of the Municipal Attorneys Association and was a founding member of the Athens County Domestic Violence Task Force

¨      He has presented trainings on various issues including domestic violence, protection orders, stalking, internet crime, driving under the influence, obscenity law, search & seizure and other areas.

¨      Creator and Editor of Ohio’s monthly “The Prosecutor’s Bulletin,” a legal update publication

¨      Author of  The Court Case Companion” for trial attorneys.   

¨      Serves on various boards and committees.

¨      Taught the paralegal program since 1998.

Carleen has been with Tri-County Adult Career Center since 1998.  Having attained her BSS Degree from Ohio University , Ms. Powell gained knowledge and work experiences from Ohio University with over 2 years experience in the President’s Office and 3 years experience with Computer Services Center .  While with the Adult Career Center , Ms. Powell has achieved many different Certifications including:

Kim joined the Tri-County Adult Career Center team in June 2007.  She was previously employed by Ohio University working in the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement. 

 

Kim serves as the first point of contact for the Adult Career Center.  Her responsibilities include telephone inquires, student registration, data entry, records management, and instructor/administration coordination.

 

Kim is a life-long resident of Athens County, an Alexander High School Graduate and a member of the Athens Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). 

 

 

Amy Shumway, Management Systems Supervisor

Amy has been with Tri-County Adult Career Center for 8 ½ years.  Her current position as Management Systems Supervisor supports the direction and leadership of The Adult Career Center.  Primary responsibilities include supervision of the daily business operations of The Adult Career Center including the secretary/office management, perform accounts receivable for coordinator programming, and all contract grant accounting/billing and reporting.

 

She has also served as Office Manager and Business & Industry Training Manager/CDL Coordinator at The Adult Career Center.  She was previously employed by Don Wood, Inc., is a graduate of Athens High School, Tri-County Vocational School and completed coursework in Accounting and Medical Terminology at Hocking College.  Ms. Shumway is a member of Association of Career & Technical Education and participates in the Ohio Department of Education/Adult Workforce Education Leadership Training Academy.

Tina Warthman, Financial Aid Coordinator

Tina Warthman has been a Licensed Social Worker for over 25 years with her background focus being long-term care. She was employed with Arcadia Acres Nursing Home in Logan, OH for 15 years as their Resident Service Director prior to joining the team at Tri-County Adult Career Center . Her primary responsibilities included admission/discharge of residents, assessment of residents, supervision of the activity department and any other area that helped the resident feel safe and cared for.


Tina resigned her position with the nursing home in June, 1996 and accepted the Student Services Coordinator position at Tri-County Adult Career Center in August, 1996. Her responsibilities include career direction and guidance, job placement, financial aid screening and assessments. Tina works very closely with our area agencies so our students may have every opportunity to achieve their education and transition from school to work.
